Well... Its over...sort of.
Family did Christmas early this year. This weekend, I got my gifts, saw the family, did the thing we do. The entire works of HP Lovecraft now grace my bookshelves in 4 lovely volumes, including a volume of rewrites of the Cthulhu stories by modern writers. I now have a light for my keyboard that plugs into a USB port, and some nice new black shirts, some new turtle necks, and a new pair of flannel pjs. Also, a new set of sheets, gray flannel, identical to the pair I got my dear one two years ago. Funny. A new pocket PC, a Dell Axim, also now graces my presence, to replace the Palm Pilot that died nearly a year ago. Finally no more dealing with DayRunners.
Over all, Christmas has lost any real meaning it once had for me. I try to give gifts year round, to mark any special occasion, but I do make it a point to give gifts to everyone close to me on Christmas. Be it a set of plates for two dear friends who now have a house, or a flannel robe for my dear one when he wasnt expecting another gift, I give something unexpected, unasked for, unlooked for, to try to bring a little light to this, the darkest part of the year.
Winter has turned... we now look forward to Spring. The Wolf of Winter will become the puppy of the new blossems and green grass sooner than we think.
And though the worst of winter is yet to come, once past the gales of March, Spring will have returned.
On a side note... when you see those around you all being taught the same lesson, listen, and do not make their mistakes. Love what you have, do not test it and do not neglect it. Love is a rare flower, and is too easily killed by the frost of carelessness. I was lucky twice. I will NEVER push my luck again.
