Oryctolagus catus

I would like to describe for you a second known species in the genus Oryctolagus, the European rabbit.

This species is unique from the only accepted species in the genus as it has a number of very different traits which mimic those of a domestic feline. Its face is more cat like, with slit pupils in the eyes, with a longer more pronounced muzzle and more pointed less obviously rabbit like teeth. The paws are cat like, but with distinct, non retracting rabbit like claws and pads more closely resembling that of a housecat. Its vocalization is a mix of rabbit like squeaks and churls as well as a distinct meow like call, as well as a puring sound that is not the common rabbit purr of tooth grinding. Fur comes in a range of colors, usually dark gray with fluff around the face and chest that is a lighter gray, though colors have been reported from brown to black to white to piebald. The diet is nearly exclusively carrots, supplemented with any sugar or caffeine. It is hypothesized that this is to maintain its very high energy and activity level.
